Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District
The Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District established a network of 15 monitor wells in 2006 to keep an eye on the level of the aquifers under Rusk County. These wells are checked monthly for the depth from the surface to water in the well. The depth measurements are recorded, graphed, and posted on this web site..

In late 2009, the RCGCD started adding over 100 additional monitor wells. These wells do not have pumps in them thus yielding a better reading than the current 15 wells that are in use by their owner.
The 3D map below shows the change in the water levels throughout Rusk County.
Real Time Monitoring
In October 2010 the RCGCD in cooperation with NOAA and TWDB installed a "Real Time" aquifer water level monitoring device in the North part of Rusk County. On April 13, 2011 a second "Real Time" device was installed in the South part of Rusk County. Hourly readings are uploaded daily to the TWDB web site. It is our intention to insatall two more devices, one in the East and one in the West to provide full coverage of Ruak County. The RCGCD also checks precipitation at some of these sites each month. This information is available on our Rain Gage Page.
The Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District was established by the citizens of Rusk County to preserve and protect the groundwater under Rusk County. The monitoring of this precious resource is one way we can work to fulfill this mandate.
